Tonic Lamp was built using Tonic Water, Test Tubes and UV LEDs. The bitter flavoring of tonic water is due to the presence of quinine, which glows blue when placed under a black light.
The structure of the quinine molecule enables it to take in energy in the form of invisible ultraviolet light and immediately radiate some of that same energy in the form of visible blue light.
